In Memoriam: Justin Schaefer

By: Kaitlin Popielarz, MEP Instructor and Guest Blogger

Justin Schaefer came to Mercy Education Project through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Beginning in the fall of 2014, Justin promised to live with spirituality, simplicity, community, and fervor for social justice with his housemates. It would be in this life of servitude that Justin would learn much about himself while teaching those around him what it means to live life as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

The event was the capstone to our pilot program “Emerging Professionals,” a five week seminar led by professional consultants Mary Beth Weigel and Janette Philips, in which women from our advanced Adult Basic Education program learned more about who they are and...

This fall she begins her ninth year as a weekly tutor in MEP’s Girls’ After School Tutoring Program. We are so grateful Jane found her way to our tutoring program in 2009 after she read about MEP volunteer opportunities in DTE Energy’s employee newsletter.
