Sponsors and Donors Support Successful Holiday Giving Program

Thank you to all the sponsors and donors who helped Mercy Education Project's Holiday Giving Programs this holiday season.

The Girls' After-School Tutoring Program hosted their annual Holiday Family Night at the UAW Local 22 in Corktown on Wednesday, December 16th.  Sponsored by Ernst & Young, the students in our Girls's Program and their families were treated to an evening of holiday crafts, entertainment and dinner.  Santa and Mrs. Claus stopped by to take pictures with the families and local musician Lady Champagne sang holiday songs with the help of some of our most outgoing and talented students. To see photos from the Girls' Holiday Family Night, visit our Facebook page.

The next day, the Women's Program hosted the annual Holiday Shop at the IBEW Local 58.  Sponsored by the Ford Motor Company Fund, the students in our Women's Program were able to pick out gifts for their families and have them gift wrapped.  With catering from Bucharest Grill, the women also were able to enjoy lunch, a performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Bassoon Trio, and participate in an exciting raffle.  At the end of the day the women went home with gifts for their friends and families as well as bags of non-perishable groceries provided by the Ford Motor Company Fund. To see photos from Women's Holiday Shop, visit our Facebook page.

Here are some recent comments from community members, volunteers, students and others who are commenting on Mercy Education Project.

"Education is an opportunity and can be transformational for our most vulnerable communities; especially those, like us, working tirelessly in search of the American Dream. Programs like Mercy Education Project have successfully removed those barriers for many and have educated our women and girls and is transforming their lives."

JoAnn Chávez, Vice President Legal & Chief Tax Officer
DTE Energy, August 2017

"….Literacy is a fundamental right and an essential building block for a productive life. Increasing adult literacy also ensures more parents can be engaged in their children’s education, ,making this a cause  critical to helping families break the cycle of poverty. Thank you to Mercy Education Project for their tireless efforts to ensure everyone has an opportunity to learn to read. Together, I know we are making a difference.”
