Emerging Leaders 2023

The 2023 two-week Emerging Leaders “summer camp” began with a cooking class with Ms. Jackie from Cristo Rey and a field trip to the Detroit Dye House, where the girls had the opportunity to stretch their creative and business brains. They also created a mural and jewelry while learning about building a business with a social purpose at Detroit's own Rebel Nell. The girls enjoyed making ceramics at Art In Motion, followed by pedaling around Detroit on The Michigan Pedaler.

Hands-on learning experiences in the great outdoors factored into our Emerging Leaders’ adventures as well, with visits to Oakwoods Metropark, Indian Spring Metropark, Michigan Humane's Abraham Ranch in Clarkston, Tree Runner Adventure Park, and the Detroit Zoo.

The girls traveled to Lansing for a visit to the state capitol, hosted by State Representative Jamie Thompson, who kindly set up our tour. State Senator Erika Geiss introduced the group to the representatives on the floor as the girls sat and observed in the gallery.

We concluded our two-week long program with a fascinating day at the Cranbrook Institute of Science. The girls created wonderful memories through Emerging Leaders 2023 while learning about leadership, teamwork, communication, science, art, and business.
