MEP High School Students Win Big: Ford City: One Challenge

It was another big week for Mercy Education Project! Nine students from our high school College and Career Readiness (CCR) program recently spent an evening celebrating their proposed transportation kiosk submitted to the City:One Project sponsored by Ford Motor Company and administered by the City of Detroit. 

Along with two other great teams, our students will split a $250,000 prize and will build their transportation kiosk in the next 6-8 months. More than 164 project proposals were submitted before the selection committee chose 12 finalists. The twelve finalists worked with Ford mentors to refine their proposals and pitches before the three winners were selected. The MEP Rock City Mobility stations will increase access to information and provide mobility options to residents of southwest Detroit. Each station will feature a kiosk stocked with signage, maps, bus schedules, parking information and more. Outside the kiosk will be a central location for various modes of transportation, including bike-sharing, scooter and ride-sharing services.

We can't wait to see our high school students actualize a project they have already put so much effort into. Along the way, we hope to keep you updated on their progress. Watch for Rock City Mobility Stations in southwest Detroit later this year!
